Your home's electrical meterbase is usually mounted to the side of your house on a sheet of plywood. The plywood will deteriorate over time. At a certain point, the deterioration of the plywood will be such that the metre base will just be hanging by the wires or conduit. The attached photo shows a recent customer's meterbase where I was hired to address this issue. The reason that this is a concern, is that when a metrebase is loose, only hanging by the wires that connect it to your home, it puts stress on the wiring, and connectors, which are live. This poses a significant fire hazard if they become loose and arc / spark.
